This site will be used for reading, illustrating, and discussing
Alice in Wonderland and her choice making.
Software:
Choices, Choices: Taking Responsibility
by Tom Snyder.
Hardware:
Three IBM Computers
Type of classroom activity:
Group of three students working cooperatively on the computer using Choices,
Choices software. (Teacher assigns students to groups to prevent problem
behavior grouping).
Pre-requisite skills:
Students will work in small groups
Students will be able to use keyboard.
Teacher will have printed Alice in Wonderland pages
Required Time:
One hour per day for one week.
Instructional Events:
1. Teacher informs students of lesson
objectives by introducing lesson and by explaining the functions of Choices,
Choices: Taking Responsibility
2.Teacher assigns students to three groups
of four (Groups A, B, & C). Each student is given a role: recorder, keyboard
operator, reader, or peace keeper.
3.Teacher explains student's
roles.
4.Students work in groups of three to reach a cooperative goal on
Choices, Choices: Taking Responsibility as teacher moves around the room.
Teacher monitors students' work and classroom behavior to ensure student
participation.
5.Students return to their tables to discuss group
outcomes with the other groups as teacher writes the three scenarios on the
board and reviews.
6.Teacher discusses Alice in Wonderland found from Web
Site focusing on responsibility and the choices Alice made and the outcomes of
those choices. (This is used to tie in Social skills lesson with
Literature).
Time Considerations & Tips for classroom
management
This social skills lesson on making choices and social responsibility will
last one week. Discussions in class will focus on achieving individual goals,
honesty, keeping your friends, etc. The teacher will monitor student behavior at
all times during group activities. The teacher will use a group contingency
model to reinforce appropriate behavior and to build group cohesiveness and
interdependency.
