Lesson Theme: Countries: Comparing and Contrasting

Target Audience: Secondary (10th - 12th grade) Self-Contained or Inclusive Setting

Objectives:
TSWBAT discover the countries population.
TSWBAT locate the country on a map.
TSWBAT identify the continent in which the country is located.
TSWBAT describe specific information pertaining to each country.
TSWBAT compare and contrast a variety of information found on each country.

Instructional Materials:

PC Globe

Type of classroom Activity:
Group setting with overhead projection for the computer for a demonstration for the entire class. Small group interaction with the students working in pairs on the computer researching their particular country. When all information is obtained they will enter their information into the class data sheet which is in the computer.

Prerequisite Skills:
Students must be functioning on a beginner/intermediate computer skills level. Students will work in small research groups. The students will brainstorm along with the teacher to develop a fact sheet so all students will obtain similar information.

Instructional Events:
The teacher will present a large map of the world for the students to identify the seven continents and the countries that are located on each continent. Students will work in pairs on the computer obtaining information about their specific country. A class comparison and contrast of the countries researched will be made as a class group.

Time consideration & Tips for Classroom Management:
The lesson will be a 45 minute project each day. Students will familiarize themselves with the country through the use of PC Globe and other materials available to them.
